“When I went to a career fair, the recruiter from “XXXX” Company didn’t tell me the opportunity for sophomores when there was actually a very good summer leadership program for sophomores. She just said ‘No!’ Then when the next person that stopped by after me, who was white, she said there were x numbers of opportunities for him. I don’t see myself as a weak candidate. I have a 3.9 GPA and leadership experience. I am just NOT white.” – Chinese Female, 22, Syracuse University ‘09
“I was one of the attorneys representing the Syracuse students in the Denny’s Incident. While the Department of Justice Civil Rights Monitor’s findings were a victory, the politics of the subsequent lawsuit and the failure of the DA to prosecute the assailants are issues that must not be forgotten. I’m glad the legacy of this case lives on. I hope the students today will continue to work with the university and community at large to ensure the respect and civil rights of all people.” – Chinese-American Female, 46, Northeastern University Law School ‘86
“After 9/11, my friend who is of Punjabi decent, was harassed and yelled racial slurs essentially blaming him and his people for the 9/11 attacks. The irony of it is that his own dad was working at the Pentagon during the attack. The people harassed him because he was wearing a turban that symbolizes the Punjabi religion.” – Chinese-American Male, 23, UVA ‘05
